Of course homemade dinner rolls are better just like homemade bread is always better then store bought right? Absolutely! However, picking up bread from the grocery store is not unusual so allow yourself to pick up a bag of frozen dinner rolls and skip a step on busy or lazy days and make these soft garlic and herb dinner rolls or these sweet cinnamon knots as a dessert from the same dough.
This store-bought frozen dough makes holiday meals or Sunday dinner a little less stressful and the easiest way to make the perfect side dish. Who would say no to warm garlic bread rolls? My kids love to snack on them once they cool down to room temperature and they need nothing else to go with it.
I usually always have a bag of these frozen store-bought dinner rolls in my freezer. Every time i decide to cook beet soup (aka red borsch) we love to have these fluffy dinner rolls on the side. It is much tastier than just having a plain piece of bread.
Use the same dough to make a dessert:
Because my family loves to have some kind of dessert all the time, i split up the dough balls and make sweet cinnamon knots too. They are both really easy to make and require very little effort so go ahead and give both a try.
Do i have to use up the entire bag at once?
You do not have to, the wonderful thing about Rhodes dinner rolls is that each ball of dough is individually frozen so you can take out and thaw as many as you want to bake. Tightly seal the rest or transfer into a freezer ziploc bag and save for later.
What are the best dinner rolls to buy?
I personally love Rhodes yeast dinner rolls for a few reasons. They come frozen in equal pieces, it is a yeast dough which makes it give off those homemade rolls vibes and you can use the same dough for savory rolls and something sweet too. They are found in the freezer section of most grocery stores. If you cannot find these, check out this article of the best dinner rolls you can buy for some guidance.
Follow the package instructions to thaw, rise and bake the rolls. It typically takes 3-5 hours so plan accordingly.
While your rolls are baking, prepare the garlic and herb oil.
Garlic & Herb Oil Ingredients:
- 3/4 cup of olive oil (or any other)
- 1/2 teaspoon of sea salt
- 2 cloves of fresh garlic (pressed or grated)
- 1/4 cup fresh dill
- 1/4 cup fresh parsley
Dress up Garlic and Herb Dinner rolls:
- In a small bowl, combine all of the oil ingredients together and stir with a spoon to combine and the salt to dissolve.
- After the rolls are baked, spoon over the oil with fresh herbs all over the tops of the rolls while they’re still hot and Enjoy!
What can you serve these garlic and herb dinner rolls with?
As i mentioned already, we love these soft dinner rolls with our Ukrainian red Borsch or any soup such as my super simple soup, or our homemade dumpling soup.
Skip a step for thanksgiving dinner and serve these store-bought dinner rolls with thanksgiving turkey and gravy or bring them with you to a potluck. You’ll quickly notice how the aroma of fresh garlic flavor and fresh herbs will draw everyone’s attention to the dish.
For best Results:
For best results, serve them warm and always use fresh garlic and fresh herbs. Unfortunately Garlic powder and dried herbs will not give you the same results.
Sprinkle flaky sea salt on top of the rolls if you wish.
Can i use melted butter instead of oil?
Melted butter is a great alternative ONLY if you are serving them right away or keep them in a warm place for a short period of time before the butter has a chance to solidify. Otherwise use a good quality oil such as olive oil or your favorite dipping oil.
