BBQ little smokies also known as cocktail weenies or little sausages, tossed in a skillet with your favorite BBQ sauce and served as a snack, appetizer or a complete meal. It is the perfect crowd pleaser at holiday parties or any weekday dinners.
This easy recipe is a quick meal idea for every one who needs an idea. Can we all agree that sometimes we’re all bummed out and don’t know what to cook for lunch or what to make for dinner? I’ve been there too many times myself when i forget to meal plan, get sick and you’re unable to cook much, or just run out of time and need to make time for other things.
Serving these little smokies have saved me from getting take out on some of those days. I usually have one or two packs of these cocktail sausages in the freezer at all times and when i need them, I’d toss them on a hot pan with a lid on the stove top and they thaw quick.
How to make Instant pot or crockpot little smokies:
If you are on the go and need something ready when you come home, you could also toss these cocktail wieners in a crock pot or instant pot, with a bottle of barbecue sauce (like sweet baby rays) and set on a low heat setting or delay start. These little smokies will be done when you need them to. They are ready when the barbecue sauce sticks to the little cocktail links, give it a good stir and they’re ready to enjoy.
I love simple recipes and this is the best little smokies recipe to make whenever you need an easy appetizer recipe for a party or have someone over unexpectedly. I always get rave reviews for its taste and simplicity.
What is the best barbecue sauce to use for BBQ little smokies?
I’ve made these dozens of times and each time i used a BBQ sauce that i had on hand. If you want to fancy it up and make your own barbecue sauce, feel free. After all homemade BBQ sauce is the best. Although, store bought in this case works great. I have tried teriyaki sauces, a variety of BBQ sauces, and if you’re in for a spicy treat, use a spicy sauce. The measurements really don’t matter, do it to your taste, its your dish after all. Some of my favorite kind of BBQ sauce/sauces I’ve purchased are Stonewall Kitchen Maple Chipotle Grille Sauce, Kinders mild BBQ sauce, Stubbs Original BBQ Sauce.
What can i serve with BBQ little smokies?
This easy little smokies recipe can be served over spaghetti, steamed rice, a cooked grain of your choice such as buckwheat or barley or even with a side of mashed potatoes if you’d like. A fresh salad or steamed vegetables would complete this dish but totally optional.
If you wish to serve these mini sausages as an appetizer instead of a meal, or just a snack on game days, during super bowl or football season, it is fun to serve them on toothpicks. It is easy to pick up and no fuss clean up. Grab those toothpicks!

For this easy recipe you can use any lil’ smokies you can pick up at your grocery store. They can also be labeled cocktail weiners or cocktail franks. There are a variety of flavors, we prefer beef smokies in our household but you can use any other flavors as well.
Ingredients:

- Water (if needed to thin the sauce)
Instructions:
Add little smokies to a deep skillet together with a BBQ sauce of your choice and cook on medium heat until all the smokies are covered in the sauce and the sauce doesn’t drip off the wieners.
