Ingredients

  • 1 lb Jumbo Shrimps peeled & de-veined
  • 1/3 cup Plain Buttermilk
  • 1/4 tsp Ground Paprika
  • 1/2 tsp Onion Salt (Trader Joes)
  • 1/2 tsp Garlic Powder
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1/4 tsp Black Pepper
  • 1 large Egg

Coating:

  • 3/4 Cup All purpose Flour
  • 3 Tbsp Corn Starch
  • 1/4 tsp Paprika
  • 1/4 tsp Onion Salt Trader Joes Brand
  • 1/4 tsp Garlic Powder
  • 1/4 tsp Salt

Frying:

  • 3-4 Cups Oil

Instructions

  1. First, in a deep bowl combine raw shrimp, 1/3cup of buttermilk, 1 egg, 1/4tsp ground paprika, 1/4tsp garlic powder, 1/4tsp onion salt, 1tsp of salt and 1/4tsp of black pepper. Mix well to combine, cover with plastic wrap and let it marinate for at least 30 minutes.

  2. Meanwhile, in a different dish combine all the breading ingredients. 3/4cup all purpose flour, 3tbsp corn starch, 1/4tsp paprika, 1/4tsp onion salt, 1/4tsp garlic powder and 1/4tsp of salt. Mix flour.

  3. Then, in a small/medium sized pot, preheat 3-4 cups of oil to 350F on medium-high heat. (If you don't have a thermometer, the best way to know if your oil is ready for frying is when you place a wooden spoon inside and you see many little bubbles around the spoon. If you don't see that, do not add shrimps, continue preheating.)

  4. Once your oil temperature is hot enough, dip each shrimp into the flour mixture and deep fry in the hot oil until they are golden brown in color. Do this in batches, do NOT add too many shrimps at once for best results.

  5. Once your first batch is done, Use a slotted spoon to take out the shrimps and transfer them to a dish lined with a paper towels to absorb excess oil and repeat with the leftover shrimp. If you own a deep fryer, add oil and preheat to about 350F and deep fry in batches until the shrimps are golden brown in color.

  6. You can make this dish a complete meal and serve these crispy crunchy fried shrimp with french fries. Garnish with fresh chopped parsley if desired or add some lemon wedges to the side to fancy it up a bit and serve with some dipping options.

  7. These crispy fried shrimps pair well with cocktail sauce, tartar sauce or any of your favorite dipping sauces. My kids enjoyed them with Chik-Fil-A sauce but my personal favorite is garlic aioli sauce. (see notes)
