Healthy Kiwi Banana Smoothie (With VIDEO)

If you’re looking for a quick and refreshing smoothie that balances sweetness with a bit of tang, this kiwi banana smoothie is just a thing! With only four simple ingredients, It comes together in minutes and tastes like a tropical dessert in a glass. It is creamy, fruity and perfect as a light breakfast snack or even a healthy-ish dessert.
This isn’t the usual smoothie recipe you’ll likely see on the web since majority of them are made with ice cream or milk of some sort, but this kiwi banana smoothie is a taste of my childhood. Every time i make it for my kids, i can’t help but remember how my mom used to make it for my siblings and I. It isn’t anything complicated, but it is delicious. I even remember how my mom came up with it one day. If you are aware of the classic summer strawberry salad that is only made with sugar and sour cream, yeah we were out of strawberries at that time but we had kiwi and bananas and mom just substituted the fruit and made this new smoothie. Now i purposely buy bananas and kiwis just to make this.
Smoothies are a popular wellness trend and frequently marked as health food. Every smoothie is modifiable for any taste or dietary preference, while some like them sweeter and others prefer no sugar. This smoothie can also be modified to your taste. If you like it sweeter, add more banana or sugar, for a more acidic kick, add more kiwi.
It is best to use ripe bananas in this smoothie as ripe bananas have the highest sugar content and you don’t need to add extra sugar, which this also makes only a 3 ingredient smoothie. Not to mention, bananas are usually always the least expensive fruit you can buy.
Aside from how easy it is to make this smoothie, bananas and kiwis have a lot of health benefits such as improving blood sugar levels, supporting digestive and heart health, full of antioxidants, and may even help loose weight as bananas make you feel fuller longer.

Make It Healthier: Swaps and Alternatives
If you’re watching your sugar intake or prefer a lighter smoothie, here are some easy ways to adjust this recipe:
1. Swap Sour Cream for Greek Yogurt:
Plain Greek yogurt gives you the same creamy texture with more protein and less fat. Plus, it adds a nice probiotic boost.
2. Skip the Sugar or Use Natural Sweeteners:
Ripe bananas add plenty of natural sweetness. You can reduce or completely skip the sugar, or replace it with:
A drizzle of honey or maple syrup A date or two, soaked for a few minutes A splash of 100% fruit juice like orange or apple.
3. Add a Handful of Spinach:
Want a nutrition boost without changing the taste much? Toss in a handful of baby spinach. You’ll barely notice it, but your body will thank you!
