Mom’s Homestyle Pan Pizza
If you love pan pizza, try this homestyle variation that doesn’t call for pizza sauce. Instead, this pan pizza comes together basically from what’s in your fridge.

This Home-style pizza perhaps shouldn’t even be called “pizza.” But, memories of this recipe just takes me way back to my childhood when my mom came up with this pan dinner and everyone loved it so much it became a regular. The dough comes together fairly quick in a stand mixer and the rest of the ingredients are basically what’s in your fridge. While you can pick and choose your favorite toppings, i am sharing the exact version my mom made for our family in my childhood years.
Why do i love this homestyle pan pizza?
This pan pizza is not like your regular red sauce pizza that you can buy anywhere else. The taste is really something special that you could only eat at your grandma’s house because no one else serves it.
The ingredients used in this recipe are basic and i usually always have on hand. I can make this any day i decide. If i don’t have a specific ingredient, it wont hurt the recipe but i always try to have these exact ingredients to use because that is exactly how my mom did it. I lost my mother to cancer at age 18 and being able to make a specific recipe her way is close to heart.
How much does this recipe make?
This pizza dough recipe makes 1 half sheet 13″x18″ with a thicker spongy crust. For a thinner crust, you can divide the dough in half to make 2 half sheets with a thinner crust. (this is what i did here)
If you prefer a thin crust but only want 1 sheet, you can divide the dough in half and freeze the other half for later.
To make 2 half sheets with a thinner crust, you’d need to double the amount of toppings listed.

What you need to make this homestyle pan pizza:
Dough:
- 2cups of warm water
- 1 egg
- 3tsp dry yeast
- 1tsp sugar
- 4.5 cups all purpose flour
Sauce:
- 1Cup Mayonnaise
- 1/4 cup Ketchup
Toppings:
- .5lb Balogna (cut into small cubes) (Vadalia chop wizard would help a bunch)
- 3-4 button mushrooms (sliced)
- 1 red bell pepper (cut into thin strips)
- 2-3 cups shredded Mozarella cheese
- 8oz canned sweet corn
- 1 small Onion
- 1 carrot
- 2tbsp oil for sauteeing onion & carrot
- Cooking spray to spray the baking sheet
How to make pan pizza dough:
1. To 2 cups of warm water add 1 teaspoon of sugar and 3 teaspoons of dry yeast. Mix it all together and let the yeast activate. It is ready when you have that large foam on top.
2. Once the yeast is activated, transfer it to the stand mixer bowl with a whisk attachment on. Add 1 egg and 1 cup of flour at a time. Mix everything to combine. As the dough begins to thicken after about 3 cups switch the mixer attachment from the whisk to the dough hook. Add the remaining flour and mix on speed 1-2 for about 10-15 minutes. As an end result, the dough will still be a bit sticky. (that is normal)
3.Cover the dough with plastic wrap or a reusable bowl cover and let it rise for about 1 hour while you prepare the toppings.

Prepare your toppings:
- Finely dice 1 small onion and grate 1 carrot. Sauté in a skillet with about 1-2 tablespoons of oil on medium heat for about 5-7 minutes or just until the vegetables soften.
- Cube bologna sausage
- Slice bell pepper
- Slice mushrooms
Sauce:
In a bowl combine 1 cup of mayonnaise and 1/4cup of ketchup. (This is my preference ratio, if you prefer more sour taste add more ketchup to your liking)

How to assemble pan pizza:
Prep a 13″x18″ baking sheet by spraying down with cooking oil. Lightly oil your hands and spread the dough evenly onto the sheet. (Divide the dough in half at this point for a thinner crust)
Spread the sauce evenly onto the dough covering every bit of it or slightly leaving the edges.
Layer your toppings. The order doesn’t matter. I like to start with my sauteed vegetables followed by diced bologna, corn, bell pepper, mushrooms and topping it off with mozzarella cheese.
Preheat your oven to 350F and bake for about 20-25 minutes on the center rack.

ENJOY!
