Mom’s Home-style Pizza
This Home-style pizza shouldn’t even be called “pizza” but memories of this recipe just takes me way back to my childhood when we didn’t have the ability to order real pizza so mom always made us her version of “pizza” and everyone loved it! Nowadays we have access to all types of pizzas on the daily but i still make this one from time to time, because not only it reminds me of my mama but it is also delicious, much cheaper to make and you can play around with sauces and toppings. I am sharing the exact version that my mom made for us all the time in our childhood. We loved it then, we love it still!
To make the Dough:
2cups of warm water
1 egg
3tsp dry yeast
1tsp sugar
3.5-4 cups flour
Instructions:
1. To 2 cups of warm water add 1 teaspoon of sugar and 3 teaspoons of dry yeast. Mix it all together and let the yeast activate. It is ready when you have that large foam on top.
2. Once the yeast is activated, add all of the ingredients together into a stand mixer leaving 1/2 cup of flour out (you might not need it) mix everything to combine and when the dough thickens switch the mixer attachment from the whisk to the dough hook. As an end result, the dough still needs to be a bit sticky (that is normal).
3.Cover the dough with plastic wrap and let it rise while you prepare the toppings.
Toppings: – Add as much or as little as you like
Balogna (cut into small cubes) (Vadalia chop wizard would help a bunch)
Fresh mushrooms (sliced)
Bell pepper (cut into strips)
Mozarella cheese
Canned sweet corn
Onion + carrot (sauteed)
4. Sauté 1 small onion, 1medium carrot, in about 1 Tablespoon of oil. Sauté just until the vegetables soften.
Sauce:
Ketchup +mayonnaise
5. Mix Ketchup and mayonnaise together to make a sauce. I eyeballed to my taste. You can try a ratio of 1cup mayo+ 1/3cup ketchup or add more ketchup if you prefer more of a sour taste.
6.Prep a large baking sheet by spraying down with cooking oil. Divide the dough in half, and spread evenly onto the sheet (oil your hands)
7.Spread the sauce evenly onto the dough covering every bit of it.
8.From here, layer your toppings. The order doesn’t matter.
9.Preheat your oven to 350F and bake for about 20-25 minutes.
ENJOY!
