Herring (Silodka)
For all you fish lovers, this recipe is for you! It hardly requires any work, the herring is store bought but the seasonings i use to put it together just takes it to a totally different level. It’s usually a big hit at the table when we have guests over. Just give it a try!
Ingredients:
6-7 Herring Fillets
1 Medium Onion
1/8 tsp Black pepper
1/8 tsp Ground Coriander
1/4 cup Vinegar (for marinating onions)
1-2 Tsp Grapeseed or Olive oil
Instructions:
1. Start by marinating the onions first. Cut onions to half circles add to a separate bowl and add vinegar. Add more vinegar if needed to cover the onions. Let it soak for 10-15minutes and drain.
2. Meanwhile, cut up the fish fillets to bite size pieces, sprinkle black pepper, ground coriander, and oil. (Grapeseed or olive oil are my favorite). Add the drained marinated onions and lightly mix it together.
TIP: Do not mix too much so the fillets don’t start to get mushy.
You can also lay out the fillets nicely on a platter and lightly sprinkle seasonings on top. If you use sweet onions you can skip the marinating process but add a splash of fresh lemon juice or vinegar on top together with the oil.
ENJOY!
